From the Star:

KUALA LUMPUR: A recent statement by Pasir Salak MP Datuk Tajudin Abdul Rahman in Dewan Rakyat has sparked the ire of some and the MCA will be sending a complaint letter to the Deputy Prime Minister seeking disciplinary action.

MCA Youth secretary-general Dr Wee Ka Siong said the movement, together with Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth and the Federation of Malaysian Clans and Guilds Youth Associations, condemned the statement by Datuk Tajudin that all non-Malays were descendants of immigrants to Malaysia.

“His statement has offended the feelings of non-Malays. We should consolidate our power and not be divided among each other by making such a remark,” he said at the Parliament yesterday.

He said the award of scholarships was a policy decided by the Cabinet and Barisanleaders.

“I hope all Barisan leaders would abide by the directives and policies that have been fixed by the leadership,” he said.

MCA Youth legal bureau chief Gan Ping Sieu said the offensive statement by Tajudin was also against the existing policy of Barisan.

“We will complain to the Barisan whip (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) and will consider lodging a police report against Tajudin.

“Under Article 63 of the Federal Constitution, Parliamentary privilege only allows MPs to express their views in a fair manner and not extend to any seditious statements,” he said.

Or, you can read it at MCA’s website here.

Now, considering that Tajudin Abdul Rahman is an Barisan Nasional MP from UMNO, I do not think the MCA would simply issue a statement on this if he did not say it. So I’m going to take it that Mr. Tajudin did say that non-Malays are pendatang.

I can’t believe that after 50 years of citizenship and nationhood, people like Mr. Tajudin can still utter these derogatory terms.

Yes, non-Malays are the descendants of immigrants.

But so are the Malays.

The orang aslis are the original peoples of what is now known as Malaysia. Malays, the collective term for a multitude of different ethnic groups, came to the country in stages from various parts of the Asian mainland and South East Asia. As such, Malays were also immigrants at one time.

Are we going to call non-Malays pendatang just because their ancestors arrived later than the Malays?

Mr. Tajudin’s statement smacks of racism and racial prejudice.

Mr. Tajudin, you’re a racist.

Apologize and retract your statement.

To those concerned, please take action on Mr. Tajudin.
